I Delight to do Your Will

This is the continuation of a series of Podcasts started in Episode #483.

(Carole) I think it’s Ephesians 3:10 talks about we are, as a church, to proclaim the many faceted wisdom of God to the principalities and powers, and I have been thinking so much about when we gather together and the purpose when we gather together is to come being in the will of God and committed to that will. But what comes out of our meeting so often is each facet. Let’s say each facet is a person, ok? And as each person shares whatever that perspective is that God is giving them, at the end of the meeting, we come up with a fuller picture of God’s perspective. Don’t we?
(Martha) Yes. It takes every person.
(Carole) Yes.
(Martha) I think I’ve often said, I’ve certainly thought it, “He’s too big.” One person cannot possibly, nor are we intended; one person cannot present Him in all that He is. It takes, it’s going to take thousands and millions and trillions of testimonies to begin to express Him. It will only be a beginning. We’ll go through eternity finding out who He is. Finding out His will is finding out who He is. How do you get to know Him? Ok, Paul said the only thing he wanted was to know Christ. And I said, ok, how are you going to live that way? You’re going to live by looking for His will, His mind. We have the mind of Christ. It’s listening to His thoughts and finding His word in the Scriptures, and hearing Him, and then you know who He is. Only in His will do you know who He is. If you don’t live in His will, don’t preach to me about who He is. You don’t know. He’s strange. He loves who is unlovable. He goes where you wouldn’t go. He puts you through what you wouldn’t want. It’s only in His will, will you go through what He will put you through. And only for the love of Him would you be willing to. But the only way to know Him is to obey Him. So here’s how to do the will of God, by believing and following the will. “Whoever does the will of God,” this is quoting the Amplified, Mark 3:33-35. “For whoever does the will of God by believing in Me and following Me, he is My mother and sister and brother.” That’s family relationships, all there. And my daughter said to me many times, “Remember, mom, the family consists only of those who do the will of God.” Because I will sometimes struggle and more used to than now. If you don’t want to do His will that’s fine. You have that choice. You have that right. We’re not going to strive with you, and I have many times striven with people to get them to the will of God. I can’t do that. I can pray them in, but I can’t persuade them. But imagine! We are Jesus’, I’m His sister. Imagine! And it even says, “brother and sister and mother.” That’s incredible. That’s an incredible statement. You are my family, not these people outside the door claiming a relationship. They came into the will, so they came into His family as family.
(J) Umhmm.
(Martha) But He didn’t acknowledge them as having any relationship to Him, because what they were doing was not the will of God. They were coming to take Him away, because they thought He had lost His mind. So, He wasn’t claiming any family allegiance to them, and there’s no evidence that He let them in to talk to Him. He just didn’t open the door to them, because they weren’t family. He was crystal clear. May we be crystal clear.
(Carole) And His obedience to the Father to do what you just said, opened up the door and set God free to do in His family what needed to be done, and Mary and James, that we know of, His mother and James. I don’t know if there’s more, but they all came…
(Martha) Umhmm. On His terms.
(Carole) On His terms.
(Martha) To Him, not as son and brother, but as Lord.
(Carole) Yes.
(Martha) And then they became mother and brother and mother. Isn’t that incredible? And I have said to the Lord, “This is what You wrote, Jesus.” And I have already quoted it. “Behold, in the volume of the Book, it is written of Me, I delight to do Your will, O, God.” And I have said, “Jesus, be that delight in me,” because humanly there is no delight in the will of God.
(J) None, none, none.
(Martha) There’s no possibility of doing His will much less delighting in it. But…
(J) One delights in the will of God. There’s only One. Jesus.
(Martha) Exactly, there’s only One. So, I’ve asked Him to be that in me.
(J) I keep on going back to, ‘if my life is in the heavens, then I no longer am, so that Christ is.’ There’s the paradox. I don’t have to follow, because I’m not here. He is. See, I don’t have to… You know what I mean? I’m not here. This isn’t… It’s Him. Now that is way out there and way up there, but..
(Martha) And way on target.
(J) See, I believe that when Christ was here, He said, “Follow Me.” OK? I can follow those feet, but when He left and the Spirit came, then He was me. There isn’t following, per se, He is.
(Martha) I think the New Testament word is ‘letting,’ rather than following. It’s not exerting any effort to follow, but it’s letting Him have His way, just letting Him be Himself. Is that what you…?
(J) That’s what I’m saying. Yeah.
(Martha) What you’re saying is just blissful. It makes my head swoon.
(J) Well, if have to follow, I have to work.
(Martha) Umhmm, I have to do.
(J) I have to do, and I’m seeing that He’s, it’s beyond follow. It’s let. Let is perfect. Let is a perfect word, because if you let Him be, He will be His will in you.
(Martha) Yes.
(J) And then His life will manifest. He will bring in His Kingdom. I’m in Him.
(Martha) You’re an expression of Him.
(J) Umm. Yes.
(Martha) Your identity is John in Christ, Christ in John.
(J) Now, I can go and get out of that at any moment.
(Martha) Umhmm.
(J) I can make a choice and say, “Pfffft. I want to do this.” Ok, well, that’s fine. But when I’m letting Him be, and really, what’s the Scripture say?
(Carole) It’s Galatians 2:20. I’m sitting here…
(J) 2:20.
(Carole) As you’re talking, I’m going, that is the essence of Galatians 2:20. “I am crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live.” I’m not even there anymore. “But it is Christ who lives in me, and the life that I now live, I live by the faith of the Son of God who loved me and delivered me.” It’s His life living. What you’re saying is a description. It is bringing into reality that Scripture.
(J) I constantly go back into that Galatians 2:20 It is a, such a dynamic reality and so counter to everything that is here, because everything here is work, strive, achieve. And He basically with that unplugs that completely. 2:20 just said, “Pfffft.” There is no work. There is no strive. There is no achieve. He achieves in me.
(Martha) We’re actually called to cease work.
(J) And to rest.
(Martha) Umhmm, and to rest.
(J) Which is, what is rest? That went into what I was… the other note I had in there. “Entering rest is Christ’s life.”
(Martha) Ok. This is the most incredible paradox and mystery. Roman’s 4:5, “And to the one who does not work, but believes in Him who justifies the ungodly, His faith is counted as righteousness. Now, get in that one and let your mind just be split wide open. “To the one who does not work but believes in Him,” not in a theory, “In Him who justifies the ungodly.” That one who does not work is counted as righteous, because he’s not in it, and only Jesus is.
(J) Whoa! That’s huge. This is Romans 4:10?
(Martha) 4:5.
(J) 4:5.
(Carole) You were just talking about how we – I don’t want to say attain – how we enter into the will of God is by believing and something else. And I thought I wrote it down, but I didn’t do it.
(Martha) What did you get?
(J) Hebrews 4:10 says, “For anyone who enters God’s rest also rests from their work just as God did from His.”
(Martha) Exactly. Yeah, that’s, umhmm. Yeah. Isn’t that amazing? We are not to work. We are not to move until the Spirit rises in us, and the Spirit does the work.
(J) “Fear lest you enter the rest.”
(Martha) Yes. Get in the Amplified and you’ll see it even stronger. As I said, there’s one fear allowed to us. That’s it.
(J) Well, here’s classic edition of the Amplified. “For He who once entered God’s rest also ceased from the weariness and pain of human labor, just as God rested from those labors, particularly His own.”
(Carole) Hebrews 4:1 in the Amplified. It says, “Therefore while the promise of entering His rest still holds and is offered today, let us be afraid to distrust it lest any of you should think he has come too late and has come too short of reaching it.”
(Martha) See, it’s the one crisis. There’s nothing else to fear except that one thing; that you live this life and think you’ve done His will without His being the One who does His own will.
(J) Is that not phenomenal?
(Martha) Umhmm.
