Does Knowing God’s Name Dispel Fear?
Episode #694
03/22/2020
With Martha Kilpatrick and hosted by John Enslow
As fear spreads across America and most of the world, there is power in the name of God for His beloved children. We are not without protection in this!
Martha:
John and I have been really seeking the Lord and experiencing the Lord and we, we feel like we have a message to bring.
I’m going to start by just experientially how I got there. Over the period of two days I, I would open my Bible and every time it would go to Isaiah 54. It’s a covenant chapter. It’s a, for several different conditions but it’s, it’s about difficulty. And I realized that to try to solve fear, to get rid of fear is not going to work very well. Do you agree?
John:
Yeah. I, I when I’m listening to a lot of the things that are, are being said online and, and different preachers and stuff like that, they’re basically saying, “We’ve not been given a spirit of fear.” And…
Martha:
“And don’t be afraid” (laughs).
John:
And don’t be afraid. And, and don’t allow your fears to manipulate you and, and lead you. And so I actually wrote two posts about this and they’ll be starting Monday and they’ll be Thursday. And I basically said, “You know, our, our fears are kind of make us, it hits us like we’re being covered with a blanket and clubbed with a bunch of baseball bats because we’re unable to hear God. And we’re unable to listen.”
For two weeks we’ve been away and we’ve been, we’ve been writing, and at the end of the time, basically Martha and I were going to go somewhere special for my birthday. And we were going to have a nice meal and just kind of celebrate my birthday. But where we were going to be doing that is in the center of, of Atlanta. And when we were getting ready to go down, the news and everything was basically talking about how horrible it is, how everything’s shutting down, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. And I, I realized I was getting, I was getting fearful. It was stirring me up and I was becoming real concerned. And then I realized I couldn’t hear. I no longer could hear His will. And so, it was difficult.
But we came down. We prayed and we got the will of God and we believed we were supposed to come down. We came down. And so we’ve, you know, we’ve been experiencing that and we’ve had this wonderful time. And I knew that when we were coming down, I knew that God was going to give us a really wonderful message, and He was going to infuse the message in the circumstance.
And so, what are, what are you seeing is as the message? What part of your message? I wrote the two posts and I got, I have something real clear, clear direction about the all the crisis and all the coronavirus. So where are you on it?
Martha:
Okay. Well, for two days I would open my Bible to Isaiah 54 and that’s a book, a book of restoration and, and healing and it’s a covenant. And I would say… Finally, the fourth time I went, “Okay, God is trying to tell me something here. So I’m going to stop.” And I, I read it several times. It has a promise that to my children that will God teach them Himself. And then I, I saw verse 5 and I realized, HERE is what He’s after. Verse 5:
“For your Maker is your husband. The Lord of Hosts is His name and the Holy One of Israel is your redeemer. The God of the whole earth He is called.”
Well, I knew there was a question in this crisis. And… But the Lord gave me the answer and it revealed the question.
John:
That’s so cool. That’s really neat.
Martha:
The question in this situation is “Who is God to you? What do… Who do you know God to be?” Every situation is to learn who He is. All of our trials are to learn who He is, that He is God and there is no other. But your Maker is your husband is a staggering statement because it means that you’re… The creator of the stars and the moon and the universe and the world and all that is, is your husband. That means the Creator is your provider, your protection, and your, the giver. So right there, the solution for the whole, any situation is there. And then He says, “The Lord of Hosts is His name.” The Lord of Hosts means He’s the Lord of heaven’s armies. That means He’s the fighter against the enemy for us. God is going to show us through this His absolute, unbelievable, inexplicable, complete care of us if we get on the right ground.
John:
I think that’s the key right there. Being on the right ground.
Martha:
Yes. Okay, it goes on to name Him: “The Holy One of Israel is your redeemer.” Redeemer means salvation. You are going to be redeemed in every area of your life to the highest utmost and you’re going to be being redeemed and saved all of your life. So that is who He is and what He gives. And the God of the whole earth He is called.
So I got real excited because the question is, “Who is God?” It’s not what’s going to happen to me and what do I need and what is the crisis or what is God doing and what is the government doing and what is the world doing, what is the devil doing? No, no, no. It’s the, the question is, “Who is God in this?” And for me, the message is He is everything. He’s absolute… There is no name that isn’t Him. So He’s, He’s everything.
And then I realized the whole purpose is to know God. And if we get off on to fear, solving fear, we’re on the wrong ground. Because you can only solve fear… I’m going to show you how.
And Jesus said, “And this is eternal life: [it means] to know (to perceive, recognize, become acquainted with, and understand) You, the only true and real God, [likewise] to know Him, Jesus [as the] Christ (the Anointed One, the Messiah), Whom You have sent” (John 17:3 AMPC).
And you remember the one that, that where they said, what’s the… “We want to work, Lord Jesus, we want to work. What is the work of God that we can do?” And He, and He gave them the answer. “This is the work of God, to believe on God the Father and Jesus Christ His only Son.” To believe is the work. John 6…
John:
It’s 29.
Martha:
…29.
“Jesus replied, This is the work (service) that God asks of you: that you believe in the One Whom He has sent [that you cleave to, trust, rely on, and have faith in His Messenger].”
So, see the work is set out for us to know Him and to know Him and believe Him. So we, we…
Of course, I went to Psalm 91 right away because I thought, “Oh, this is the message we’ve got to deliver is 91 because everything there is about pestilence doesn’t come near your tent and you will not be subject to all of this and no evil will befall you.” And so, I was going… Because we’ve been memorizing that and repeating it for a year at least. And I have seen parts of it become actual living experiences. But you, you have to go into this to see the condition. And the condition is,
“He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High God will remain stable and fixed and no power of the foe can get to him.”
So number two is, your statement is,
“I will say of the Lord, He’s my fortress and my refuge, my God in Him I trust, confidently trust. He will deliver you from the snare of the fowler, from the enemy.”
Okay. But then further on in it, the secret place is simply that you’re in union with Christ. You’re in Jesus. That’s the secret place. HE is the secret place.
To come to that as a real faith takes work, because it doesn’t appear to have a reality to it that’s visible. But we are in Him. That’s the secret place. And you, we are to live dwelling in the secret place before the Father, under the wings of the Father, under the pinions of the Father, which are the wings that fly, and we, we have a testimony that we are to say to Him, “I believe You are my refuge and my fortress.”
Then on down it goes… I’m going to turn this over to John in a second. Okay, in verse 14 says,
“He set his love upon Me there I will deliver Him. Because he knows and understands My name, has a personal knowledge of My mercy, love, kindness, trust and relies on Me.”
It’s about the name. And then it says in Psalm 91,
“You will not fear the pestilence.”
Well, we are in terrific fear of the pestilence. But we’ve got to go to who He is and His names gives us a clue to who He is. We know from Isaiah 54 that He’s, He’s our creator. He can create anything that we need. And He is every intimate relationship—relationship with the Father is intimate, relationship with the husband is intimate, relationship with the Lord is intimate. And all those names… If we cry out for those names, we will not fear.
John:
It just, it’s amazing to me that the— Because I’m always going back to the purpose of everything is to know, to know Him, to know Him…
Martha:
Yes, you do.
John:
…to know Him. And, and that is particularly this: knowing the Lord, knowing His name, knowing who He is, knowing His character, knowing His person.
Martha:
And in the last few days, I have wanted to know all the names of Jesus. So I searched and I found some things and I ordered a little pamphlet that has all the names of Jesus. Then I looked in my Holman Bible and in the back, it has all the titles of Jesus and I counted that, not accurately, okay, but it seems to me there’s over 200 names, in the Bible, of Jesus. And by those names we know who He is.
John:
Wow.
Martha:
He says to, He prayed to the Father, “I have made Your name clear to these disciples.” That’s what He gave them: “This is the name of the Father.”
And so I have in my own possession already – “when, before you call I will answer” – I have pages and lists of the names of Jesus.
John:
That’s beautiful.
Martha:
Isn’t that wonderful?
John:
It’s great.
Martha:
It goes on and on and on. And I think I’ve counted at least 180 if not more: He is the angel of the Lord, He’s the anointed One, He’s the Baby. Oh, yeah, He’s, His name is Baby. I didn’t, I wouldn’t have put that down. He’s the beginning and the end. He’s the Beloved Son. He’s Christ Jesus our Lord. I’m on the Cornerstone. Oh, I can’t wait to talk to you about the Cornerstone! He is the Cornerstone. That’s His name. He’s the door of the sheep. He’s the Prince of peace, the eternal Father, the first and the last. He’s the fourth, firstborn over all creation. He’s the fountain to wash away sin. He’s the good Shepherd of the sheep. He’s the Bridegroom. He’s the Head. He’s the Head of every man. He’s the Head over everything. He’s the Heir of all things. Oh, I, I, I’ve got… I’m sorry, I’m running away (laughs).
John:
Uh uh.
Martha:
And it just goes on and on. And I’m going to spend time. I want to know all His names. And it’s not something legalistic that you’ve got to say the name and you’ve got to pray to the name exactly. It’s, it’s relationship.
John:
Yeah.
Martha:
That you’re…
John:
Absolutely. Sure enough, that’s exactly it.
Martha:
…just in relationship
John:
Relationship, that’s exactly it.
Martha:
It’s just saying, okay, in situations where you have this in you, you will remember, “He’s the good Shepherd, I shall not want.”
John:
Um hmm, um hmm.
Martha:
So, this is for me, this is the dispelling of the fear.
John:
Right.
Martha:
The fear is to know who He is and He gave me this, this saying, these words, “Death is stalking but life is calling.”
John:
Right.
Martha:
Isn’t that, isn’t that wonderful?
John:
Absolutely.
Martha:
Death is after us, is it not? Fear is death. And you’re going to tell us about that in your, in your… And what I asked the Lord, when John told me the Lord had a message for us, and I asked Him to let us both have a message that melded…
John:
And it seems to.
Martha:
…and linked together.
John:
Right.
Martha:
Yes, it definitely does.
John:
You have one side and I have the other.
Martha:
So I wrote it, it’s not about to stop fearing, it’s about start believing. But first you start knowing…
John:
Um hmm.
Martha:
…the names and then you start believing.
Does Knowing God’s Name Dispel Fear? – Episode #694 – Shulamite Podcast
As fear spreads across America and most of the world, there is power in the name of God for His beloved children. We are not without protection in this! Psalm 91 details the requirements of God as well as the outlandish provision and safety found only in Him.
With tears, I bless you Celia, for sharing your walk and revelation!
And you experience the richness of ‘learning Jesus’ through all facets of life.
This is such a wonderful message and I can testify that it is so true. I have been fearful for as long as I can remember. I was a worrier and pessimistic. The Lord has been working on me that last 6-7 years and through any bad thing, He has been faithful, and I can look back on it with thankfulness because I received more of Him and a greater knowledge that He alone, is all I need. He is making Himself my one heart’s desire! It has been painful, but it has been wonderful. And through the last couple of years, this ministry has been so helpful in helping me choose to believe in Him and His goodness to me and to repent of lies that I have believed about Him or my life. I have learned how good God is to me. And miraculously I have not been in fear over any of this virus situation. If the worst happens, we get more of Jesus! If the best happens, we get more of Jesus! He is so, so good. And you are right in saying we must know that, before we can just wish fear away. The world is a fearful place, but we have one who is mightier, who is worth more than all that is in the world, or all that we think we could lose. We have the King of the universe who gives us all good things, who adores us, what could we lose? We have everything in Him and nothing can snatch us out of His hands! Thank you so much for this encouraging podcast!
