This is the continuation of a series of Podcasts started in Episode #437.

(M) I just want to do a little Bible here. Jesus said, “I’m going to..,” oh let’s see. It was in Luke Jesus said, “I’m going to preach the gospel of the Kingdom. I was sent here for this purpose.”
(J) Umm, umm.
(M) That word ‘purpose’ makes everything so specific that God wants to do. And 2nd Timothy 1:8b-9, (Holman translation) “Relying on the power of God He has saved us and called us with a holy calling not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace.” And you mentioned grace, John, and I’m seeing in this verse, “according to His own purpose and grace which was given to us in Christ Jesus before time began.” In His purpose is grace for the purpose. Paul’s writing to Timothy here, because he’s going through a lot of suffering and abuse. And there’s a place I’m called to be right now that is the purpose of God, and I’m being slaughtered there.
(J) Umhmm.
(M) So it does not mean that it all goes happy, like you said. I’m glad you mentioned that, because it means you will suffer for His purpose, but there will be such grace in the middle of that purpose.
(J) Umhmm. UmHmm.
(M) So He’s “given to us in Christ Jesus before time began.” The purpose for my life and your life was planned before time began. Can you take that in? “This is now been made evident through the appearing of our Savior, Jesus Christ, who abolished death and brought life and immortality to light through the gospel.” And then Paul says, “I was appointed a herald, apostle, teacher.” That’s all his purpose. He knows the purpose. And if you… The greatest fulfillment and satisfaction lies in His purpose. I have marveled. There’s no way to describe the work that you and Jennifer have been doing; labor that should have been done by others that we paid that was never done. And you didn’t know how to do it. And you have learned volumes, and I cannot convey the work, the grace… There’s no complaint. You tell me you’ve been through 300 pages or whatever or 100 podcasts and set it up, and there’s absolutely grace, because that is the purpose He’s put you and Jennifer here for. And it’s just, that is incredible to me. I’m learning about purpose through going through this, by leaving His purpose. Oh, and then I found… You’ve heard this before in Romans 9. God said, “I raised up Pharaoh for my purpose.” And then he tells the purpose, “that He might show His power to the world and make His name proclaimed.” And Pharaoh didn’t cooperate at all, but he was raised up for that purpose. God did it through him; hardened him so that the miracles would be greater. And His purpose is astounding and miraculous if we’ll get in it. Those who love God, love His purpose.
(J) Ummmm
(M) You can’t love His purpose without loving God first. That’s Romans 8:28.
(J) That reminds me of the booklet from Nee you told me to read.
(M) “Worshipping the Ways of God?”
(J) “Worshipping the Ways of God.”
(M) Yeah, “Worshipping the Ways of God.” That’s incredible. And the word ‘purpose’ is all around Job. God had a purpose for what He put Job through. And I wrote about it in our “Get Along with God;” wrote two things I think on purpose. I’m fascinated to write more if God will show me. But it’s essential that your safety, your fulfillment, your unction is in the purpose of God. And it’s going to be unique and special for each one.
(J) UmmUmm.
(M) There’s not two purposes alike in the world, but the One purpose is that it’s all for Jesus.
(J) Umm. Umhmm.
(M) So, I’m incredibly grateful for what we, what small little deal we went through to learn a mighty, huge lesson; that we are to rule and reign. “Those who receive the abundance of grace shall reign in life by One, Christ Jesus.” And we were supposed to go in that restaurant and reign.
(J) Whatever that looked like.
(M) Whatever that looked like. Yeah, not knowing necessarily what it would look like.
(J) Not knowing what we would have encountered. But if we were on this job, on the stick…
(M) Showed up…
(J) Yeah. Showed up, we would have, it would have been apparent.
(M) Umhmm. Yes, it would have become apparent and clear. We would have had grace and power.
(J) But all we had was the ability to get our rear ends whooped!
(M) Chaos and sickness; discouragement and sickness. Well, and, John, there is this promise. It’s all about warfare. I’m writing a book or a booklet. It’s called, “Victory Over Evil; If the War is Won, Why Aren’t We Winning?” And this was a boot camp experience of the war, John.
(J) The amazing thing is, is that was what you were writing the entire time, and it was like, you know, we were brought out into the wild, so to speak and said…
(M) Into the war..
(J) Here you go!
(M) Absolutely. Oh, my goodness, and I will tell it as a principle; probably won’t tell the experience, but I’ll be saying, “Ok, when you go out to a restaurant, you’re on call as a soldier.” When does a soldier… And one of the things I wrote while I was there…
(J) U, U, Duhhh!
(M) One of things I wrote was, “When is a soldier on duty, on call, ready for action? 24/7.
(J) Did we make that connection til this very minute?
(M) No, we did not make that connection. I didn’t…
(J) I didn’t either..
(M) Til this second.
(J) No.
(M) Oh, my goodness. So this was, this was…
(J) I think I said at one point, “You are writing about this,” but I didn’t, it didn’t register like this. I’m like, “Oooo, yikes!
(M) Oh, my goodness, that makes my head swim in a whole different level of seeing it. So, we’ll be in boot camp for this thing to be written; training, in training. So I solicit prayer for this booklet. It’s very exciting, and there’s reams of notes and beginnings that I’m made, but I really need prayer. And of course there’s warfare against it, terrible warfare against it; distraction and so forth. Many years ago when we were choosing names for email, I chose the name, Tirzah from Song of Solomon, where the king says, “You’re beautiful as Tirzah, terrible as an army with banners,” because I don’t have any of that in me. And it was really asking the Lord, “Make me a Tirzah, terrible as an army with banners.” And the army with banners has won.
(J) Umm. Umm
(M) And I think I am pretty terrible in some ways; not enough obviously. But Luke, when Jesus sent the disciples out as lambs among wolves with no money in their pockets, they followed Him to the cities. “Go preach and go heal,” He said. And they came back so excited, because even the demons were subject to His name. They went out without typical weapons. They weren’t armed, and they didn’t even have a supply. They had to trust the supplies. They went their way, but they followed. They did exactly what He said, and this was 70. This was not just the 12. This was 70 followers. So, when they came back and proved that they would trust Him, that’s when He said, “Behold, I give you power and authority over all the power of the enemy and nothing shall in any wise harm you.” But it was only after they had been tried as soldiers going out in the war, trusting the Lord for everything and obeying Him, doing exactly what He said. The instructions are extremely explicit that He sent them out, what to do if they went in a house that received them with not… to wipe the dust off their feet. They followed Him and did it, and He gave them; He bestowed a total authority on that 70 group, because they had followed Him. So, wherever we go we should be following Him. He went in that restaurant first and said, “I want them to sit here. Maitre d, I want them to sit here. I want this couple to celebrate their anniversary here.” He went in ahead of His sheep, for sure. And we followed Him, but we didn’t go in the authority that He has given when He sends His lambs among wolves.
(J) Umhmm.
(M) And the world is getting more terrible and more terrible, so this is something we need to be on duty. Let me end on this one. Since we’re talking about warfare, I’m going to end on this verse. It doesn’t use the word purpose, but it’s definitely about purpose. 1st John 3:8, “The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the devil’s work.” The purpose or reason, same thing; the reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the devil’s work. I’m going to go back to 1 John 3:8 from the beginning, “That he who commits sin, who practices evil doing is of the devil, takes his character from the evil one, for the devil has sinned, violated the divine law from the beginning. The reason the Son of God was made manifest, physical was to undo, destroy, loosen and dissolve the works the devil has done.” The reason the Son of God was made manifest and visible was to destroy the works of the devil. If that’s His reason, if that’s His purpose, that’s our purpose.
(J) Ummm!
(M) His purpose is our purpose, and we serve His purpose. So, I want to end on that scripture, because it says it beautifully. “He who sins is of the devil.” That’s the proof. There was sin going on at the table, and that was of the devil.
(J) Wow! I hope you enjoyed our little experience of Christ’s life and of warfare, our little, living object lesson.
(M) Yes, a living warfare lesson and the great, great fruit that has come from it and going to come.

  1. Sandy says:

One thing is clear to me: one obviously needs ENOOOOORMOUS amounts of humility to be able to follow Jesus…

After listening to you today this passage, from 2 Cor 4:7-12, came to my mind:

“However, we possess this precious treasure [the divine Light of the Gospel] in [frail, human] vessels of earth, that the grandeur and exceeding greatness of the power may be shown to be from God and not from ourselves.
    We are hedged in (pressed) on every side [troubled and oppressed in every way], but not cramped or crushed; we suffer embarrassments and are perplexed and unable to find a way out, but not driven to despair;
    We are pursued (persecuted and hard driven), but not deserted [to stand alone]; we are struck down to the ground, but never struck out and destroyed;
Always carrying about in the body the liability and exposure to the same putting to death that the Lord Jesus suffered, so that the [resurrection] life of Jesus also may be shown forth by and in our bodies.
For we who live are constantly [experiencing] being handed over to death for Jesus’ sake, that the [resurrection] life of Jesus also may be evidenced through our flesh which is liable to death.
Thus death is actively at work in us, but [it is in order that our] life [may be actively at work] in you.”

And may God help you write this book dear Martha. I will be praying for you.

  3. Annalie du Toit says:

I ask Holy Spirit in weakness to give us, or teach us,or anoint us “…,to be kind to everyone…willing to suffer wrong…correcting our opponents with gentleness, in the hope that God may grant that they will repent…and come to their senses and escape out of the snare of the devil…”(2 Timothy 2:23-26).

I ask Him that we will not be salt that has lost its saltiness, and is only fit to be trampled on.

May He protect you and provide for you in all your ways of obedience.

Thank you for being faithful stewards in the Father’s house.Thank you for being yourselves and not religious. Thank you for your love and hard work. Thank you for your transparency.

  4. Pauline says:

A (limited) understanding of warfare that is observed in scripture is not that Satan is out to destroy the true believer….they are secured in Christ by the Holy Spirit. But, as seen in Rev. 12:17, he’s after those who have the testimony of Jesus Christ. What is that? Martha, in one explanation, expounded on a specific version — I see it in the KJV+ — of Gal. 2:20: ” . . . I live by the faith OF THE SON OF GOD, Who loved me and gave Himself up for me.” This could be the testimony of Jesus because when HE can work in us to will and to do this, there is His rest; there is His victory of all the works of the devil. (Just a thought . . . not ‘gospel.’) Looking forward to the booklet you are writing, Martha.
    Love.

  5. Tammy Hardin says:

“…not giving just another method but a living impartation.”

    Indeed!

  6. Sam says:

Oh bless you… indeed great fruit and amazing grace are flowing out, and it will increase according to His riches.

    Love!!
