Overcoming Anxiety: Defeat and inner thief killing our joy in life.
John:
I talk about your best isn’t good enough I know that people have the best intentions and I had the best intentions. I was trying to live my life correctly. I was doing my best. But then God had to say, “Your best isn’t good enough.” I was like “Can you explain that to me because I did say, ‘I’m doing my best.’” It was a frustration. I really felt like He explained to me why my best isn’t good enough and I share that in this as well.
Martha:
You heart is in this, John. And it’s right here on these pages that you are opening your heart. One of the things you say is “My desire in sharing this is to express of those in this trauma the urgency of dealing with it.” That’s what we don’t get-it’s urgent; it is a spiritual and physical crisis one that you have personally faced and won.
John:
I’m not talking about it as someone who has not been affected by it, who has not been involved with this. This is not a teaching and telling. This is a testimony and what I’ve learned and the scriptures that have helped me; and the process of coming out of it.
Martha:
I keep running over these scriptures that you have brought in. It’s amazing when you start looking at scriptures about anxiety and worry. Never before have I seen it so powerful as you are putting it. Again, I say, there is hope.
You have a sense of humor in here, too. You say, “Anxiety is like the ring in a bull’s nose.” Tell me some more wonderful insights, John.
John:
I mean you really, when you are in anxiety you are able to be dragged wherever the enemy wants to take you. Just that little twist of the ring in the nose makes that big bull move wherever the farmer wants him to go and the same thing as anxiety is a ring in our nose and will turn us where he wants us to go. That’s why it’s disloyal to God to have anxiety because of the fact that it does lead us to following the enemy rather than Him and His voice.
Martha:
You are identifying that anxiety is the enemy. It is a force.
John:
I think there is a force behind the force.
Martha:
That’s what I wanted to hear.
John:
I think Satan uses it. I think he does. He hops on anxiety just like the media has done with motivating us with fear to get us to move in a particular direction; the enemy can do the same thing.
Martha:
The enemy has one power alone and we can destroy that power. The power of the enemy is the lie. We have to see that we are being given lies that produce this anxiety and that’s coming from the devil. All he has is the power of our acquiescence. We have to learn to keep the enemy out of our mind because the enemy is coming with things to deliberately make us anxious and we don’t realize it’s a black force; dark entity.
John:
It is deeply purposed.
Martha:
Yes. To the very extinction of us all. Thank you for doing this work, John. I’m grateful. This harks back to one of my messages about the word ‘Let’. And that’s also a word for the anxiety we have. The scripture says. “Let be. Let it be.” Don’t stress over it just let it be and God will work it out. That’s what I am learning. Let be and be still. You are not still when you are in anxiety. I know that personally.
Be still and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations.
Someone I read on this passage realized that it was saying if we will be still God will explode to the heavens; to the nations. And He will be exalted by our let be.
I will be exalted among the nations.
That is a gift of working to trust.
John:
It’s a huge thing to let Him and to have that faith in Him and it’s a big part of it, absolutely; that faith of letting is a big part of it; not the totality of it but it is defiantly part because anxiety is false faith.
Martha:
Yes. You make this statement and it’s real telling- “As I have stated anxiety is being determined to do it on our own.” Without God’s help is what you mean, isn’t it, John.
John:
Absolutely!
Martha:
Anxiety is when you take up being God. You have so many wonderful quotes of yours, your writing, your revelation. Your heart really wants everybody to get it. We just ask everybody who is hearing this wonderful message to share it; bring it around. This is a revelation that is falling on us through John and it’s for everybody. That’s not strong enough. You’ve got such a broad and deep and high insight into this and it being such a central thing in our need.
This is incredible: you say, “Stress is the indicator that we own something we can’t control.” Isn’t that it? We get upset because we can’t control it. We won’t leave it for God.
John:
Absolutely…
Martha:
We would do it if we could possible do it but our attempts are futile because above all God is the one who has to solve it in each individual. Is that right?
John:
Absolutely. He has to do this. It’s a work of the Spirit. It has our choice involved but it is a work of the Spirit.
Martha:
It kind of blew me away that you have order 10,000 copies.
John:
I did. I picked up 10,000 copies. I can back from trip from Ohio and they said the books are ready and I ran by and I said, “Ok, I’m here to pick them up”. My car is not big. It’s really not big. It’s an SUV but it’s not big. He said, “There is just no way.” I said, “There’s got to be a way. I cannot drive back down here two and a half hours please don’t make me do that.” We started packing it and then finally we took out the suitcase and we had to pull out and rearranged a little bit; put the suitcase back in. They said, “We would have never thought that you could do that.” I said, “Where there’s a will there is a way. I had to get all these books.” I got them all.
There are 10,000 of them and they are a booklet; they are not a book. It not like an exhaustive thesis and it’s not an exegesis of anxiety as a topic. It’s a booklet and it’s easy to digest. It’s in a small form so that it’s not overwhelming or overpowering. It’s not like you have to sit down for a couple months and read this. This is a one or two day sit.
Martha:
I am so excited because the back of this thing is worth $59.00! I don’t know where that came from. It’s marvelous. “Defeat and inner thief killing our joy in life.” That’s incredible. Just read this and you will understand that you need to do it; you need to tear it down and surrender.
John:
Anxiety touches touched most every person in their deepest being. It is a great equalizer and seems to be one of our most common problems. In anxiety we can be easily manipulated and controlled by the many voices looking to gain power over our lives. Whether it is the media, family, or myriads of people we encounter daily the goal is to gain influence over our choices and lives. Anxiety is such a heinous trap that becomes a horrid stronghold.
Martha:
You call it here “A controlling power.” That’s incredible. Talk to me about a controlling power.
John:
That’s the whole ring in the bull’s nose. It is a controlling power. When you are in anxiety, you are turning yourself over to an anxious spirit and that is not being led by the Holy Spirit.
Martha:
Right.
